  1. In DIE FOR ME the villain works as a games designer. After the Columbine tragedy in America it emerged that the two killers were addicted to violent video games. How much influence do you think video games have on today’s youth and how they think?
  2. How does the relationship between Vito and Sophie develop over the course of the book? What does this add to our understanding of the characters?
  3. Throughout the plot the author uses several red herrings to throw readers off the scent. Can you identify them? How did you feel they enhanced your reading experience?
  4. How important do you think the setting is for DIE FOR ME? Do you think the novel would have worked as well if it had been based in the UK?
  5. Many of the characters in DIE FOR ME have sacrificed for others. For example, Sophie gives up the career opportunity of a lifetime to return home to care for Anna. What is the nature of the different characters’ sacrifice? Have you ever sacrificed in a similar way for someone or something you held dear?
  6. Simon is willing to cross any societal taboo to achieve his goal. What is this goal and does it transcend fame and recognition?
  7. Claire Reynolds is the first person Simon murders. Why did he wait so long to take his first life? Discuss.
  8. What do you think goes through a killer’s mind as they commit their first murder and do you think the second murder is as hard as the first?
  9. Daniel Vartanian is a man with a grave secret. If you’d been in Daniel’s place, what would you have done about the pictures he’d seen his father possess and, presumably, destroy?
  10. What did DIE FOR ME remind you of? Any particular books?
  11. Do you think DIE FOR ME would make a good film? Who would you cast in the leading roles?
