Before I Forget – Reading Group Questions

1. At the beginning of the story, Abby is uncomfortable and feels like a ‘fish out of water’ amongst her family. Why do you think this is?

2. To outsiders, Kieran seemed a rather difficult and demanding partner, yet Abby finds it hard to get over him. Is this simply a case of love is blind or is something else at play?

3. Abby’s To Do list plays a central part in the story. What would you include in your own personal To Do list?

4. Compare Abby’s items on the list to the ones her friends and family planned for her. Which were more effective, and why?

5. Most of us tend to photograph and record landmark occasions in our lives. Why do you think we do this, and how important are these records to you?

6. Finn admits that he is much more comfortable around dogs than he is around humans. Why do you think this is?

7. Through her visits to Hannah, Abby is forced to confront many truths about her life. Do you think these visits were beneficial or a hindrance to Abby and why?

8. Do you think Abby’s family handled the circumstances in the best way and would you have done anything differently?

9. Could you identify with Abby’s worries about a future with Finn and in your opinion did she act fairly towards him once she learned the truth?

10. Did you feel the ending was appropriate and in a real-life situation, what would you think the future holds for a couple in Abby and Finn’s circumstances?
